I didn’t think much of the Ruined Tool when I first pulled it from a dusty table in Weavenest Murglin. In Hollow Knight: Silksong, most relics are either currency or a quick upgrade, but this one is different: it is the broken shell of an ancient Weaver weapon called the Silkshot, and the place where you repair it changes the weapon you carry for the rest of your run. With only one version available per playthrough, this is one of the few decisions in Pharloom that actually matters. After testing all three versions across separate saves, I would take the Mount Fay Silkshot every time — but the journey there is not obvious, and the other two options are far from useless.

🔧 Where I Found the Ruined Tool

The Ruined Tool is tucked away in the Weavenest Murglin area, behind a Needolin door in the southeastern part of Bilewater. My first attempt took longer than I’d like to admit because I kept trying to climb instead of dropping. The correct route is to drop down into the maggots at the bottom of the screen and then head right. Once you pass through the Needolin door, you need to drop down again to get past a locked gate on your right. After that, double back, and you will find the Ruined Tool sitting on a table. It is easy to miss if you are rushing, so slow down when the room opens up.

This item was once a piece of ancient Weaver tech known as the Silkshot. Before Hornet can use it, though, it has to be repaired. That is where the real choice begins: three different craftspeople can fix it, and each one produces a different Silkshot variant. You cannot collect all three in a single playthrough, so this is not a completionist checklist — it is a commitment.

⚒️ The Three Repair Options

Repair location Who repairs it Silkshot version What stood out to me
Deep Docks Forge Daughter Silkshot I More ammo than the other versions, but only a single shot and very little hangtime
Underworks Twelfth Architect Silkshot II Fires three rounds at once for a broader spread, but holds less ammo and has heavy kickback
Northern Mount Fay Special crafting table in a cave beneath the Faydown Cloak upgrade Silkshot III The most powerful blast; firing in midair suspends Hornet for about half a second

Forge Daughter’s Silkshot I is the safe, ammo-friendly option. I found it useful for clearing small enemies at range, but the single-shot limitation and lack of hangtime made it feel less exciting than the other two. Twelfth Architect’s Silkshot II is more entertaining: three rounds at a time give you a wider spread, and the kickback is noticeable in a way that makes the weapon feel heavy. Still, the reduced ammo and the recoil mean you need to think more carefully about when to fire.

🏔️ Why Silkshot III Is My Pick

The Silkshot III that Hornet forges at Mount Fay is, in my opinion, the best of the three by a clear margin. Its railgun-like blast is the most powerful, and the midair suspension effect is more than a visual flourish. When you fire it in the air, Hornet’s position holds for around half a second, which gives you a tiny but real window to dodge incoming attacks. In a game where movement and timing matter so much, that extra beat of control is worth the trip to Mount Fay.

The cave is in the northern part of Mount Fay, just beneath where the Faydown Cloak upgrade is located. You will likely need the Faydown Cloak to reach it comfortably, so this is not an early-game detour. I treated it as a mid-run pilgrimage: I explored other regions first, picked up movement upgrades, and then came back for the Silkshot III. The payoff was worth the wait.

💡 How I Decide Between the Other Two

If I had to rank the Silkshot versions for a second playthrough, I would put Silkshot II above Silkshot I. The three-round spread is fun and can catch multiple enemies, and the kickback, while heavy, is manageable once you learn the rhythm. Silkshot I is still perfectly usable, especially if you prefer having more ammo and a simpler firing pattern. But neither of them matches the Mount Fay version for raw power and defensive utility.

As of 2026, this choice remains one of Silksong’s most consequential optional decisions. My advice is simple: if you only plan to play through Pharloom once, wait until you can reach Mount Fay and craft Silkshot III. If you want to experiment, make a separate save for Forge Daughter and Twelfth Architect so you can feel the differences for yourself. Either way, the Ruined Tool is not just a relic — it is a promise of a weapon that will shape how you fight for the rest of the game. ⚔️🧵
